SoAZ May Newsletter Chapter members and fellow alumni; The ballots have been counted and the members have spoken. The chapter has confirmed Thom Rossa, ’63, Jim Hillenmayer, ’73, and John McCarthy, ’76 as our chapter directors for 2020-21. Congratulations to all three and thanks for your willingness to serve our SoAZ chapter. The next step will be for our new Board of Directors to decide on filling the chapter officer positions. Thanks to Art Wiedner, ’63, for collecting the ballots and to all 22 members who participated in the voting. Raffle – since our SoAZ Spring Social was so rudely interrupted by COVID Sue and I went ahead with the planned Raffle. The winners are: Bart Dalla Mura, ’54 – SoAZ Candy Dish made by former Chapter Treasurer Hod Wells, ‘59 Marshall Magruder, ’62 – “Go Navy” Garden Flag Congratulations to Bart and Marshall and enjoy! Members can view the socially distanced deliveries on our Event Photos tab. Parachute Rig – I am proud and pleased to announce that the SoAZ chapter played a leading role in coordinating donations from my Class of 1967 in funding a rig for the USNA Parachute Team. With that funding secured there are a total of 12 rigs either committed, delivered or in production for the team. Classes that sponsored rigs are: USNA '41,'67,'72(2 rigs), ’73, ’77, ‘79(3 rigs), '18, and '23(2 rigs). The team is still looking for classes to fund 8 more rigs. Contact me for more details if you can spearhead a campaign within your class. Also – a reminder – the USPA National Collegiate Championships will be held again in Eloy this year. Our chapter is engaged in helping coordinate housing and transportation. More details will be provided as we get closer to the event.
